FoodTraNet Secondments

By Nayyer Rehman, WRG Europe Ltd.

Ljubljana

The FoodTraNet secondments have begun with my arrival in Slovenia to explore consumer interaction with novel foods, new technologies and packaging solutions at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School. It was an exciting experience to see Humar’s lab where Abdur Rehman Anwar (ESR4) is working on developing edible photonic barcodes led by Dr Matjaž Humar, Cathrine Terro’s (ESR6) plans for developing food authenticity databases under the supervision of Prof. Nives Ogrinc and Eirini Andreasidou’s (ESR10) work on agricultural waste water reuse with Prof. Ester Heath.

Maribor

This was followed by an insightful visit to Maribor, where Prof. Aleksandra Lobnik and Edoardo Donà (ESR11) from IoS (Inštitut za Okoljevarstvo in Senzorje) discussed the use of sensor technology and Prof. Lidija Fras Zemljič and Athira John (ESR13) from the University of Maribor talked about novel strategies with functional coatings in packaging.
