During my secondment at the University of Bologna's Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences, I had the opportunity to visit the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy. The day involved in-depth discussions and synergy focused on the role of researchers in assisting the European Commission in achieving the ambitious goals outlined in the European Green Deal. Amid our presentations, my colleagues and I aimed to synchronise our contributions with the defined objectives. My focus delved into leveraging digital communication tools for effective science outreach.

What struck me the most was the intricate network of individuals shaping policies and refining innovations for the benefit of European consumers. As the day progressed, it became evident that the success of proposed policies doesn't solely rely on scientific merit but also on how data is presented and shared among diverse stakeholders. The experience at the JRC has left me inspired to participate in such events and intensify efforts to foster channels of communication between researchers and policymakers for a sustainable future.
