M4I FoodTraNet Secondment

My Final FoodTraNet secondments was scheduled at the in M4I, The Maastricht Multimodal Molecular Imaging Institute Maastricht University, The Netherlands on April- May 2024. Before my secondments, Polyethylene furanoate (PEF)- Polycaprolactone (PCL) block co-polymers has been synthesized via melt polycondensation technique with different mass ratios for Food Packaging applications at our laboratory in AUTH. During my research visit we focused on research on MALDI based analysis of PEF-PCL block copolymers.

The MS annotation of PEF&PCL co-polymers (MALDI-MS – Rapi flex) helps to confirm the successful formation of Co-polymers. MS/MS annotation of PEF&PCL co-polymers (MALDI-MS/MS – Tims ToF) helps to understand the block structure of co-polymers. Likely that co-polymers are composed by small blocks of PCL and PEF and preferential position of PEF as end-group. I would like to thank Prof. Dr. Ron M.A. Heeren, Director M4I, University of Maastricht, Distinguished professor of molecular imaging for his valuable guidance and support throughout my secondments. In addition, I had the opportunity to collaborate and work with, Lidia Molina Millán, ESR 14, PhD Candidate, M4i Institute, Division of Imaging Mass Spectrometry and Chrys Wesdemiotis, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Polymer Science, The University of Akron, Akron, OH. We will work together to publish the experimental findings obtained from this visit in the coming days. At my secondments in M4I Maastricht, Netherlands, I gained a new characterization techniques and knowledge on MALDI based analysis. I would like to thank the M4i members for their cordial greetings.
