By Cathrine Terro, JSI Ljubljana.

April 24 – 26: Jožef Stefan Institute

What is ISO-FOOD?

The new ERA Chair for isotope techniques in food quality, safety and traceability, established in Summer 2014, in Slovenia.

ISO-FOOD enables the fusion of multidisciplinary knowledge and ideas for target-oriented research on three Pillar themes (Food authenticity, Food traceability and Food Safety) and two Horizontal themes (Metrological support and Knowledge repository).

ISO-FOOD Experience
The 2nd ISO-FOOD Symposium took place in Portorož, Slovenia (Grand Hotel Bernardin) from April 24 – 26, 2023. The conference was a huge success and that can be contributed to the program, the great invited speakers, the oral and poster presentations.

The symposium included stimulating multidisciplinary topics ranging from food authenticity and traceability, food safety and quality, new alternative food sources, nanomaterials and nanotechnology, foodomics, food databases and semantics, nutrition & health, risk assessment & risk management, metrology in food and quality and sources of water.

I was part of the local organizing committee and really enjoyed being part of the team (Dr.Nives Ogrinc and my colleagues) and ending up with a conference success story. The symposium not only included presentations but also a Dégustation session where several of our sponsors and local businesses introduced their local slovenian products in the form of food tasting- wine, cheese, chocolate, vegan meat, etc..

The conference also included a Science Slam session during dinner where you could show your creative skills about the work you do. The essence of the science slam is to explain research in an understandable and entertaining way. Awards were given for both the science slam and best poster winners!

The next ISO-FOOD Symposium will take place in San Michele all'Adige (Trento, Italy) in 2025.
